You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection ~ Budda (Born: 563 BC – Died: 483 BC )
Tv, Radio, Newspaper, Internet, Celebrity tells you that you aren’t thin enough, aren’t special enough, aren’t talented enough so how exactly do you learn acceptance for yourself let alone love who you are? What choice do people have today except to strive for a skewered perception of normality?
How many shows have we seen on tv where teens and twenty something’s wear fake hair, fake nails, fake tan before going out? Men and women are striving to look like so called celebrities with fake add ons, fad diets, working out until their whole body changes. How is this healthy? Surely as a society we should be teaching tolerance and acceptance for all people?
Yet today, a person can be heckled on the street for being too big, too skinny, too strange, too different from the accepted norms. How can this be acceptable? Doesn’t anybody learn about the Holocaust of the Second World War or the Mass Graves of the Balkan conflicts or the wiping out of the Kurds by Sadam. Different religions, different nationalities, differences full stop and these people were killed and sacrificed and still we learn nothing. Nothing about acceptance or appreciation of other people’s differences to ourselves. Am I the only one to think that this is a travesty?
My question is how do you learn to love yourself, when the world seems so set on teaching hate? Where do you start? Along with the all the media telling us that we need to change we repeatedly tell ourselves negative comments. That we aren’t good enough, thin enough, clever enough. That we can never do enough or what we do isn’t good enough and that we can do better, must do better. It seems that we should start there then, we should look at our own voices and listen when they tell us negative things in order to tell them that it isn’t true, that we are good enough or bright enough. That we’ve done our best and maybe it isn’t great but we’ve tried, and isn’t the trying the important thing anyway? So maybe we should just try to love ourselves as we are.
